Companies and trade unions agree on Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh for second term

Amsterdam/Dhaka, 29 June 2017. Companies and global unions have agreed on a 2nd Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh (“Accord”). The agreement will enter into effect when the current Accord expires in May 2018. The Accord is an unprecedented, legally binding agreement between companies and trade unions to make factories in Bangladesh safe.

Inspection Reports Liberty Fashion Wears Ltd.

The Accord hereby publishes the reports from the inspections for fire, electrical, and structural safety conducted by the Accord of Liberty Fashion Wears Ltd. (LFWL) on 22-23 March 2017.

The reports have been provided to the LFWL and the National Plan of Action (NPoA).

LFWL, as a factory under the NPoA, will be monitored and supported in the Corrective Action Plan development and the remediation of the safety findings by the NPoA.

Accord Press Release 4 Year Anniversary

Workplace safety in Bangladesh garment industry significantly improved after 4 years of Accord agreement

Four years on, the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh takes stock of significant improvements and unresolved safety hazards at garment factories in Bangladesh. Entering the final year of the current agreement, a direct financial support program is launched to help factories complete remediation.

Accord Statement on the April 2013 Rana Plaza building collapse

Today marks the passage of 4 years since the tragic collapse of the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh which took the lives of more than 1100 people and injured many more. Our thoughts remain with the victims and their relatives of this disaster. With the passage of time, we must remain vigilant to prevent a return to tolerance for unsafe workplaces in the Bangladeshi Ready-Made Garment industry. Every day, the Accord is driven to ensure that RMG factories in Bangladesh are made safe and stay safe.

Advisory Board Meeting Report

The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh (Accord) held its eleventh Advisory Board (AB) meeting on 12 March 2017 in Dhaka. Representatives from supplier factories, sourcing agents, the Ministry of Labour (DIFE), IndustriAll RMG trade union federations (IBC-RMG), Accord signatory brands, and Bangladesh NGOs/CSOs participated in the discussions. The ILO RMG Project Manager served as the neutral Chair of the meeting of the Accord Advisory Board.
